Slater, professor of New Testament at the James and Carolyn McAfee School of Theology, is one of 25 contributors to True to Our Native Land: An African American New Testament Commentary, recently released by Augsburg Fortress Press. It is the first biblical commentary written entirely by African Americans. Brian Blount, Dearborn Professor of New Testament at Princeton Theological Seminary, was the general editor. MACON, Ga. - Mercer University Provost Horace Fleming has announced the appointment of prominent ethicist Dr. David P. Gushee to the position of Distinguished University Professor of Christian Ethics. Dr. Gushee currently serves as a University Fellow, Graves Professor of Moral Philosophy, and Senior Fellow of the Carl F.H. Henry Center for Christian Leadership at Union University in Jackson, Tenn. At Mercer he will be based in the James and Carolyn McAfee School of Theology in Atlanta and is expected to teach interdisciplinary ethics courses throughout the University.McAfee Dean R. WATCH SAVANNAH NEWS CONFERENCE ONLINE WATCH MACON NEWS CONFERENCE ONLINE SAVANNAH - Mercer University and Memorial Health announced today a major initiative to increase the number of doctors serving Georgia's communities. Mercer will expand its existing two-year clinical program at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah into a full four-year campus of the Mercer University School of Medicine. This expansion, which will eventually double the number of medical doctors graduating from Mercer, was made possible by funds allocated in the 2007-2008 fiscal year state budget signed into law last month by Gov. Sonny Perdue.
