Macon - Applications are now being accepted for the 2007 Casting for Confidence retreat for women in recovery from cancer. Mercer University School of Medicine and the Georgia Women Fly Fishers are teaming up again this year to offer the retreat in Forsyth. It takes place on Saturday, April 28. The retreat is offered to cancer survivors and patients who are beginning to resume normal physical activity. There is no charge to attend.
The Mercer Baptist Collegiate Ministries of Mercer University won the "CourtsRedford Award for Excellence in Student Missionary Deployment" for the 2006year. This award is presented annually to the leading colleges anduniversities who effectively mobilized their students to impact lostness inNorth America. Accepting the award for the Mercer BCM was the BCM Missionscoordinator for the 2005-06 school year, Sarah Holik, and the BCM Missionscoordinator for the 2006-07 school year, Aaron Kinard. Presenting the awardon behalf of the North American Mission Board was Amy Signaigo.

MACON - Mercer's Binary Bears computer programming team is about to take on one of the world's toughest competitions, the 2007 ACM International Computer Programming Contest, which bills itself as the "battle of the brains." The team leaves Sunday, March 11, for Tokyo, Japan, to pit its problem-solving prowess against 88 teams from around the world. Of the 21 U.S. teams in the competition, Mercer has the smallest undergraduate enrollment.
MACON - Mercer University has been selected as one of 141 colleges and universities in the nation recognized for distinguished community service on the first President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. The distinction recognizes Mercer students, faculty and staff for helping to build a culture of service and civic engagement in the nation. More than 500 colleges and universities applied for the Honor Roll this year. Mercer President William D. MACON - Allen Lynch, Associate Professor of Economics at Mercer University, along with Jay Coleman, Professor of Management at the University of North Florida have been predicting recipients of at-large bids handed out by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee for the more than a decade. The "Dance Card," now in its 13th year, has a 93.7 percent accuracy in predicting the "at-large" berths handed out by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee.
Director of Athletics Bobby Pope has announced a news conference will be held Monday morning at 10 a.m. in Heritage Hall at the University Center to name the new head women's basketball coach.
