Kirby Godsey's creation of a new task force on Civic Engagement, the Mercer Center for Community Development and University Commons are hosting a lecture for students, faculty and staff titled "Why Civic Engagement? Why Now?" Rick Battistoni, Ph.D., a leader in the field of community service learning and a professor of political science at Providence College in Rhode Island, will give presentations on both the Atlanta and Macon campuses. He will speak at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 3, on the Atlanta campus in the Trustees Dining Room and at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, in Newton Chapel on the Macon campus. When you return from spring break on Monday, March 15, the University Center will open for regular operation from 6-10 p.m. All students, faculty and staff are invited to visit the first day to either just check out the U.C.'s many amenities or actually use the pool, intramural courts or wellness equipment. Macon- Mercer University students will "party all night" Friday and Saturday, Feb. 20 and Feb. 21, as part of their third annual Up 'til Dawn overnight finale event to raise awareness and support for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  The event will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, and will end at 7 a.m. Saturday.   The public is invited to join the students, faculty, and staff for the 12-hour celebration for the kids of St. Jude in the gymnasium of Mercer's Human Resources and Recreation building.  The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children. MACON, Ga. -- ESPN Legal Analyst Roger Cossack will be featured speaker at Law Day 2004, March 5, 12:30 p.m., at the Macon City Auditorium.   Cossack has been a contributing anchor with Court TV since 2002 and is of counsel at Arent Fox Kintner Plotkin and Kahn, PLLC in Washington, D.C.   Previously, he covered the top legal stories for CNN from 1995 through 2002, including the trial of O.J. Simpson, custody battle for Elian Gonzalez, and the impeachment and trial of President Clinton as well as the disputed election of 2000.   Law Day is sponsored annually by the Walter F. MACON, Ga. -- A tribute to Law School professor James C. Rehberg, AB '40, JD '48, will be held Friday, March 5, 6:30 p.m., at the Macon City Auditorium.   Robert E. (Bob) Hicks, BA '50, LLB '51, will serve as master of ceremonies for the event while professor Rehberg will be toasted by other distinguished alumni including: Charles R. Adams III, BA '80, JD '83; the Honorable Griffin B. Bell, LLB '48; Manley R. Brown, LLB '65; Leah F. Chanin, LLB '54; Hugh B. McNatt, BA '69, JD '72; Richard A. (Doc) Schneider, JD '81; and Robert L. (Bob) Steed, LLB '61.   After he obtained his law degree from Mercer in 1948, he returned to teaching high school until he became Law School librarian in 1949. He landed a full-time teaching job at the Law School in 1954. ATLANTA - Mercer University's Southern School of Pharmacy, School of Medicine, Georgia Baptist College of Nursing and Mercer Health Systems will hold a Free community health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Sheffield Center on the University's Atlanta Campus, 3001 Mercer University Dr., just off Chamblee Tucker at Exit 94 on I-85 North.   Students will provide screenings for blood pressure, blood glucose, total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol and osteoporosis. Participants can also bring their current prescription, non-prescription and herbal drugs for review and consultation.
