ATLANTA-Kaye Burnham Smith and LaMae Smith Williams, owners of Three Rivers Home Health Services in Eastman, recently were honored with the Entrepreneurial Leadership Award from Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University. The award was part of the Centennial Celebration of the College of Nursing as it recognized alumni and friends who had made outstanding contributions to the profession of nursing   Smith and Williams' names will be posted in the nursing school's new Hall of Honor for outstanding Georgia Baptist graduates. Smith said it's "quite humbling" to be recognized in the company of the other Georgia Baptist graduates whose names appear on the Hall of Honor.    "I was completely shocked," Smith said of winning the award. An estimated 1,563 students are expected to participate in graduation ceremonies on Mercer's Macon and Atlanta campuses over the next month.  The University will hold nine commencement ceremonies and hear from an array of renowned speakers.   Mercer University President R. ATLANTA-Thirteen public safety officials from across metro Atlanta recently completed an intensive leadership training program equipping them to better serve their community in times of crisis.   On April 21, Mercer University's College of Continuing and Professional Studies honored the first graduates of its Public Safety Leadership Institute (PSLI), a 16-month program designed specifically for public safety leaders.   "This is a proud moment for Mercer," said Thomas E. Kail, dean of the College of Continuing and Professional Studies. "Through the Institute, Mercer University contributes to the development of an important group of professionals."   Students in the PSLI program meet for a five-day period every other month and on selected Saturdays. ATLANTA-Four Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy students recently placed second in the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy and Therapeutics Competition.   Alonzo J. Logan, Howie McKibbon, Amy Rorer and Peter Strickland won second place in the national competition held in Minneapolis, Minn., in April.   The four students had to analyze and justify a request to add a new drug to a managed care formulary using pharmoeconomic principles learned in class. They competed against approximately 10 teams from across the country.   The students are members of the Southern School of Pharmacy's chapter of the Academy of Managed Care. MACON - After an evening of music from the "Piano Mania" concert, featuring Neva Langley Fickling and friends, Mercer University dedicated its state-of-the-art recital hall in Fickling's honor, naming it the Neva Langley Fickling Hall on Saturday, March 29. The recital hall is located in the new Allan & Rosemary McCorkle Music Building on the Macon campus.

MACON-Mercer University head men's basketball coach Mark Slonaker has agreed to a four-year contract extension that will keep him at Mercer through the 2008 season. Slonaker had one year remaining on a four-year agreement that was signed in 1999.
