ATLANTA – Earlier this week, faculty and staff in Mercer’s College of Nursing packed boxes of masks, gloves, goggles and gowns to donate to healthcare workers in Atlanta-area hospitals who are on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19.
“We didn’t have huge amounts, but we gave all we had,” said Dean Linda Streit, R.N., Ph.D.
The College of Nursing distributed personal protective equipment (PPE) to WellStar Health System, the state’s largest healthcare system, as well as Peachford Hospital in Dunwoody.
“I think all of us must be prudent and realize that our healthcare workers need vital supplies that may be sitting in our labs and stored in our cabinets. They are serving no purpose stored for future use when PPE is in critical need,” said Dr. Streit.
Additionally, consistent with Gov. Brian Kemp’s address on March 23, the College of Nursing will be facilitating all pre-licensure nursing graduates to seek temporary licensure through the Georgia Board of Nursing to address the critical healthcare needs of Georgians.
