It takes a lot of people to make Mercer University the institution that it is. The students have and always will be the lifeblood of our University, but Mercer wouldn’t be Mercer without expert faculty members to pass on their knowledge and highly-skilled staff members to manage day-to-day operations. Our “Worker Bears” series highlights the Mercer employees who work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to care for our University and our students.

Meet Fontina Taylor

Title: Administrative secretary for the Educational Opportunity Center

How long she’s worked at Mercer: Since October 2002.

What she does: Mercer’s Educational Opportunity Center provides admissions, financial aid, career planning and academic services to high school students and adults interested in going to college. As administrative secretary, Taylor does whatever she can to make sure things things run smoothly at the center. Among her many duties, she works with the center’s coordinators and academic advisers, handles reservations, and inputs more than 2,000 people each year into a specialized database. Aside from her job, Taylor has been working on her bachelor’s degree in informatics at Mercer and will graduate in May.

What she loves most about her work: “I like being able to help people who really want to go back to school. Sometimes when you get to be a little older, you don’t know exactly how to start that process. I like being able to assist with that,” Taylor said.
