Adela Casas is graduating from Mercer University‘s Tift College of Education with a Bachelor of Science in Education in early learning and development.

What are your plans after graduation?

I will be teaching first grade at the private institution that I currently work at.

Who was your favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor is my adviser, Sheila Thompson, instructor of early learning and development. She always makes sure that we are moving forward academically and most of all that we are understanding what we are taking in.

What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?

I loved going into the building for certain classes because the staff is so friendly. They made sure that we had our Mercer gear — shirt, banner, stickers — and just made us feel valued.

What was your favorite class and why?

I loved any class with Dr. Elaine Thurmond, assistant professor of clinical practice. She always made learning fun.

How do you plan on changing the world?

One baby/child at a time.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Give it all you got! Grab the bull by the horns and hold on. Don’t give up.

How did Mercer prepare you for your future?

Mercer has given me the tools and has helped me to continue my knowledge in my field of study.

What makes Mercer special to you?

I know that Mercer is a private and elite organization. I have had a few friends and teachers that are also Bears. I heard that Mercer had the best program, so that’s what influenced me to make my decision to attend.
