Adrian Butts is graduating from Mercer University‘s Stetson-Hatcher School of Business with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to study for the CPA Exam, start work with Ernst & Young, and begin Mercer’s Master of Accountancy program in the fall.

Who was your favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor was Stephanie Morris, senior lecturer of accounting. It is rare to find a professor who is so ecstatic about student performance and retention of material. Because of her, I have achieved more than I ever thought I was capable of. She will always remind you of your potential and will always be there to be a great mentor if you need guidance.

What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?

One of my favorite Mercer memories is being a part of Mercer ROTC. Believe it or not, running three miles or doing a 12-mile ruck before your 9 a.m. class will set your day off to a great start.

What was your favorite class and why?

My favorite class was ACC 204: Introductory Financial Accounting. Taking this class solidified my belief that I am a future CPA. I loved everything about it and was naturally good at it.

How do you plan on changing the world?

I am already changing the world by selfless service and showing kindness wherever I go. Selfless service is elevated when you help others who cannot help themselves. Currently, I am volunteering at my local humane society as a dog care taker. I help shelter dogs become more likely to be adopted, and that is a great feeling.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Don’t be afraid to change. You will change so much in four short years. Being uncomfortable and taking new opportunities will take you much farther than staying within your comfort zone.

How did Mercer prepare you for your future?

Mercer prepared me for my future by exposing me to new connections via networking events. As an accounting major, we have monthly meetings discussing our next steps as young professionals in the industry.

What makes Mercer special to you?

Mercer will always be special to me because of the connections I have made here. I have said time and time again, the lessons I have learned here at Mercer are far beyond the classroom. I have learned more about myself and what I truly want in life while being here at Mercer.
