Annabelle Adams is graduating from Mercer University’s College of Education with a Bachelor of Science in Education in early learning and development.

What are your plans after graduation?

To work as a kindergarten teacher in Gwinnett County Public Schools!

Who was your favorite professor and why?

Dr. Elaine Thurmond is one of my favorite professors because she is an amazing and inspirational educator. Her passion and positivity shine through with everything she taught us. Her classes are insightful and practical. She was always cheering on her students while creating fun ways to learn. Dr. Sheila Thompson is another one of my favorite professors, not only because she was my mentor but because she always took time to check in with her students. She cares about children, and she is very passionate about changing the way Georgia sees children and educators. She works hard for her students and for her cause. She has been an inspiration to me and what early childhood education can be if we band together and fight for our students and their families.

How do you plan on changing the world?

I plan to advocate for my students and their families. I plan to advocate for education and for educators. I believe that everyone should be treated with kindness, no matter who they are or where they are from!

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Be yourself and you will find your people, and you will be supported and guided as you take this journey to graduation! Remember to reach out to your professors because they care about you! This place is amazing! You won’t be disappointed! I wish you the best, and I hope you know that Mercer is a fantastic place! I hope you receive all the many blessings it has to offer you. Try new things, get out of your comfort zone, and live life to the fullest!

What makes Mercer special to you?

The atmosphere here at Mercer was amazing. This is where I belonged, with people like me, and I wasn’t doing this alone. We were all in this together. It is special to me for so many reasons, but most of all because it helped me reach my goals and my dreams! It is where I felt that I mattered and that my professors truly cared about me and what was going on in my life. Mercer supported me even though I was working full-time! It holds a special place in my heart forever because I enjoyed making memories here, and I enjoyed the journey even if it was hard, but I’m so glad that I made it through, thanks to Mercer! Graduation will be something I will treasure forever! Mercer takes me to where I want to be, and I have learned so much!
