Katherine Heilbroun is graduating from Mercer University‘s School of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to work in the engineering field locally. I also plan to stay at Mercer for an additional year and earn my master’s degree in engineering.
Who was your favorite professor and why?
My favorite professor was Dr. Natalia Cardelino because she made all of her classes fun and showed me how to apply my knowledge outside of the classroom. She is always willing to help her students learn to achieve their goals because she wants them to succeed. She celebrates the success of her students along with them.
What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?
One of my favorite Mercer memories is studying with a new group of friends my first semester at Mercer. We call ourselves “The Stud Buds,” and we are still friends.
What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class at Mercer was senior design. The work was hard, but it has been so rewarding. My team members and I have seen that we have learned so much here at Mercer, and we know how to apply what we have learned. Our adviser is so proud to see us apply everything she has taught us over the last several years.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
My advice for incoming students is to have fun learning, ask questions, study in the library with a study group, and go to office hours. The professors love to answer questions about their specialties, and they want you to succeed!
How did Mercer prepare you for your future?
Mercer has prepared me for my future by teaching me how to apply my knowledge. Faculty have assisted me in the classroom and outside of the classroom. They have showed me the steps to take and allowed me to take those steps independently. They have celebrated my success along with me.
What makes Mercer special to you?
My first visit to Mercer felt like home. I had been to many, many campuses, and none of them welcomed me quite like Mercer. The campus environment is amazing. I felt like I belonged on this campus immediately, and I am sad to be leaving — but I will be back!
