Melody Saheb

Melody Saheb is a 2020 graduate of Mercer University‘s Georgia Baptist College of Nursing, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

What are your plans after graduation?

I am starting my nurse residency in orthopedics/spine this summer and starting graduate school this fall for my masters in nursing with concentration as a family nurse practitioner.

Who was your favorite professor and why?

Dr. Jennifer Bartlett really changed the way I looked at the profession of nursing. I carried those ideals with me through every course and even when I was studying for exams. Her passion and knowledge was so invaluable to our learning experience. She has greatly influenced the type of nurse I hope to be, and I am forever grateful to have been her student.

How do you plan on changing the world?

I plan on taking everything I have learned to do my very best to serve our community. My passion is patient advocacy, and I hope to bring that to the forefront of all the patient care I give in the future. Through caring compassion, we can be better to one another and work toward a brighter tomorrow. Changing the world is a team effort, and it takes all of us to create an amazing outcome.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

You can do anything you put your mind to! I truly believe that if you want something and you work hard for it, it is achievable. Remember to always believe that you are capable. Many have achieved the same goals, and there is no reason you won’t also do the same. Work hard, put everything you have into the task at hand and be the best you can be. It may all sound cliche, but it is the truth.

What makes Mercer special to you?

The community. The Georgia Baptist College of Nursing was a second family for me. The faculty, the students and our amazing admissions team all formed a close-knit community that is ingrained in our hearts no matter where our journeys may take us. Never have I seen the closeness that I saw at Mercer, and that is so invaluable toward helping us, as students, reach our goals.
