MACON — Mercer University’s inaugural Mercer French Bowl will take place on March 21, at the University’s Connell Student Center Conference Room One from 9:15 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.

Assistant Professor of French Alexis Chauchois is one of the event’s organizers and said the Bowl is more than just a competition.

“The Mercer University French Bowl 2024 is a celebration of the French language and Francophone cultures, fostering language proficiency, cultural exchange and a deep appreciation for the richness of French heritage,” he said. “With participants from colleges and high schools across Middle Georgia, we aim to create a vibrant community around French language and Francophone cultures.”

Dr. Chauchois, JoungHwa Woo from Mount de Sales Academy and Nicolas David from Stratford Academy organized the event. They said they are dedicated to ensuring a seamless and enriching experience for all participants.

“We’re excited to have students from Stratford, Mount de Sales, Central High School, Wesleyan College, and Mercer University joining us for this event,” said Dr. Chauchois. “A total of 67 students will participate, divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced levels based on their grammar knowledge.”

Participating students will have the opportunity to assess and enhance their French proficiency in a friendly competition setting. They will also be able to interact with peers from different institutions, fostering cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.
