It takes a lot of people to make Mercer University the institution that it is. The students have and always will be the lifeblood of our University, but Mercer wouldn’t be Mercer without expert faculty members to pass on their knowledge and highly-skilled staff members to manage day-to-day operations. Our “Worker Bears” series highlights the Mercer employees who work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to care for our University and our students.

Meet Kiana Perkins

Title: Enrollment Coordinator in the Office of Student Financial Planning on the Macon campus

How long she’s worked at Mercer: Three years

What she does: Perkins works with students whose last names begin with the letters A through G. She verifies FAFSA information and I-9 employment eligibility for students hired to work on campus and processes Parent PLUS loans, outside loan applications and outside scholarships for traditional undergraduate students as well as undergraduates in the College of Professional Advancement. She also assists students in person at the Stembridge Center for Student Success and by phone.

What she loves most about her work: “You’re dealing with students who are coming in with so many questions. With the climate of COVID-19, a lot of families are coming in. Being able to provide solutions for families is the best part of what I do,” she said. It’s rewarding to be able to provide some comfort and help easy their anxiety and worries.
