American Legion Post 3 to Host Launch Party April 18 for New Veterans Voices Nonprofit

MACON – Mercer University's Veterans Voices project will hold an official launch party on April 18, 12-5 p.m., hosted by American Legion Post 3 in Macon, located at 5530 Thomaston Rd.

Veterans Voices is a new nonprofit organization created by Mercer students at the end of 2014. Supported by volunteers from the Middle Georgia community, it is partially funded by a sponsorship from Cox Communications and has administrative support from the Macon Arts Alliance.

The Veterans Voices project is focused on providing a public platform that allows veterans in Middle Georgia to share their stories and artistic expression with the community. This platform will be provided through a literary magazine that will feature art, short stories, poetry and more, created by veterans and their families.

All veterans and their families are welcome to attend the party, which will feature free food and live entertainment, including music by The Vineyard Band.

At the event, Veterans Voices volunteers will interview interested veterans, recording their stories, which will be converted into written works for the literary magazine. The event will also showcase readings from works created from previous interviews with World War II veterans in Middle Georgia. There will be a number of other veterans organizations and groups represented at the event.

All members of the community who are interested in the project or the stories of our local veterans are also welcome to attend.
