It takes a lot of people to make Mercer University the institution that it is. The students have and always will be the lifeblood of our University, but Mercer wouldn’t be Mercer without expert faculty members to pass on their knowledge and highly skilled staff members to manage day-to-day operations. Our “Worker Bears” series highlights the Mercer employees who work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to care for our University and our students.

Meet Crystal White

Title: Library Assistant II for the Circulation Department at Jack Tarver Library on the Macon campus.

How long she’s worked at Mercer: She first started working at Mercer as an undergraduate student in 2015 at the Furman Smith Law Library. A few months after graduating in May 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and minor in chemistry, she became a staff member at the Jack Tarver Library.

What she does: “As a circulation assistant, my main responsibility is assisting patrons at the circulation desk,” she said. “This includes answering questions about library policies, helping patrons find items, assisting with library equipment and providing access to circulating materials. Additionally, I have the responsibility of directly supervising the student assistants for the circulation department, which includes training new students on library procedures and, most importantly, how to find library materials.”

What she loves most about her work: “I’ve loved working in the library since undergrad, and a big part of that was getting to know the people in the Mercer community. Working in circulation, I always get the chance to interact with people who come into the library whether it be students, faculty or other staff members. I like being able to help them with what they need or at least point them in the right direction.”
