Bob Mavity of The Grand Opera House, Amy Schwartz Moretti of the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings selected as two of five honorees

MACON – Two Mercer University employees, Bob Mavity and Amy Schwartz Moretti, have been recognized for their service to Central Georgia’s cultural life at the 2022 Cultural Awards, presented by Macon Arts Alliance on Oct. 27 at Mill Hill Community Arts Center.

The annual Macon Arts Alliance Cultural Awards recognize individuals, organizations and businesses who have made significant contributions to the cultural life of Central Georgia through their work or philanthropic efforts. This prestigious event only honors a few recipients each year, with five recipients receiving awards in 2022.

Mavity serves as senior technical director of The Grand Opera House. He began his career at the venue in 1994, before Mercer assumed management of The Grand.

In this capacity, Mavity oversees all facilities operations for the venue and serves as an in-house designer and production manager for local traditions like Nutcracker of Middle Georgia and Macon Civic Club as well as national touring shows and rentals. Outside of his work at The Grand, Mavity volunteers to assist productions at venues around Central Georgia, frequently helping other local technicians and special events. He also serves on the board of Macon Film Festival.

Moretti is artistic director of the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings and Caroline Paul King Chair in Strings for Townsend School of Music.

In addition to her performances as an orchestral soloist and concertmaster, Moretti is an award-winning chamber music artist, appearing in concert series and at music festivals across North America, Europe and Asia. She is a member of the internationally acclaimed Ehnes Quartet. Moretti developed and curates the Fabian Concert Series on Mercer’s campus, featuring internationally distinguished artists in chamber music concerts and master classes. Amongst performing on many prestigious stages and receiving multiple honors, Moretti was selected as one of Musical America’s Top 30 Professionals of the Year in 2018.

The awards ceremony was held Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. at Mill Hill Community Arts Center. For more information, visit maconartsalliance.org.
