Mercer University freshman Jordan Oladokun has been awarded a placement with the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP)

MACON, Ga. — Mercer University freshman Jordan Oladokun has been awarded a placement with the competitive Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP), a free, six-week summer enrichment program focused on improving access to information and resources for college students interested in the health professions.

The program takes place at 11 partner institutions across the U.S. and offers students a chance to develop competencies for becoming successful applicants to health profession programs, plan academic journeys, get clinical exposure and network. Oladokum will be attending the SHPEP program at Louisville, Kentucky, which will focus on diabetes and cardiovascular disease and include clinical exposure.

A chemistry major from Valdosta, Oladokun said he can’t wait to pursue this “wonderful opportunity.”

At Mercer, he is involved in the University Honors Program, and after graduation, he plans to attend medical school to pursue a doctorate and eventually become a pathologist.

“Jordan is a mature, hard-working, smart student. In addition to building on his strong academic foundation, his growth to becoming a leader is also evident,” said Dr. Jeffrey Hugdahl, professor of chemistry. “He is a true servant and, as with many of Mercer’s students, upholds the tradition of taking the opportunity to grow, learn and give back. I am excited to watch him progress.”
