Elizabeth Lambert, a third-year law student, recently had her article “The Internal Revenue Service and Bitcoin: A Taxing Relationship,” accepted for publication into the Virginia Tax Review. The article discusses the current IRS approach to the valuation of bitcoins, and the problems that arise from this approach.

Lambert completed the article as part of her coursework for Professor Linda Jellum's advanced Tax Policy Seminar. Jellum, Ellison Capers Palmer Sr. Professor of Law in Tax, describes the article as a foundational one in the area of bitcoins, which has remained an unexplored area of law until now.

In addition to her publication success, Lambert is a Student Writing Editor for the Mercer Law Review, and an Editor for the Journal of Southern Legal History. She is the recipient of multiple awards, honors, and scholarships, and the Co-president of the Association of Women Law Students. She currently works as an extern for the Internal Revenue Service Office of Chief Counsel, and anticipates graduating from Mercer Law in May 2015.
