On weekdays, Tangela Mitchell is coordinator of student affairs services on Mercer University‘s Atlanta campus. But on any given weekend in the fall, she’s traveling the South as a football official for the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Mitchell is a member of the NFL Officiating Development Program, which exposes college officials to NFL experiences and evaluates their potential to succeed in the NFL.
She was one of three female football officials featured in the 2019 award-winning documentary “Her Turf,” directed by Shantel Hansen, which follows the women as they navigate the male-dominated industry.
