WHO:             Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University

WHAT:            Building Dedication Ceremony

WHEN:            12:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12

WHERE:            Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University building, 3001 Mercer University Drive, Atlanta (just off I-85 inside the northeast perimeter)

WHY:              Part of the Centennial Celebration weekend activities for the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing, the 60,000-square-foot, three-story building will be dedicated by Mercer University President R. Kirby Godsey.

The state-of-the-art nursing education building represents the finest in teaching technology – quite a difference from the five-room cottage in downtown Atlanta where the first nursing students studied in 1902.

Designed by Smith Dalia Architects of Atlanta, the facility houses a microbiology lab, anatomy and physiology lab, two nursing clinical skills labs with eight patient beds, computer alcoves throughout the building, a study lounge, student organization meeting rooms, kitchen, seminar rooms, classrooms, and an auditorium-style classroom.

Occupied last January, the building’s official dedication marks another historic milestone in the life of the 100-year-old Nursing College, the oldest nursing program in the state of Georgia.
