ATLANTA—Gwinnett County resident Christy Perrin Karnbach, Pharm.D., received the prestigious Reuben C. Hood Award at the Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy commencement ceremony May 3. The Hood Award is the highest scholastic award given by the School of Pharmacy and recognized superior academic achievement.
Earning a perfect 4.0 grade point average in all her studies for the doctor of pharmacy degree, Karnbach achieved the highest grade point average of the 2003 graduating class. And she managed to do this while working 20 to 30 hours a week at the local Target store pharmacy.
Karnbach is humble about how she earned the award. “I just had good time management, I guess.”
But she also worked very hard in school. Some nights she would work at the pharmacy until 11 p.m., then get home only to have to spend several hours studying.
“It was definitely a good accomplishment to receive the award,” she said.
The Mercer graduate was also the recipient of the Merit Scholarship and was recognized for her outstanding academic achievements with the M.A. Chambers Award, the Minnie M. Meyer Award and the Oliver M. Littlejohn Award.
While at Southern School of Pharmacy, Karnbach was tapped for two honor societies, Rho Chi and Phi Kappa Phi. She was also active in the American Pharmacy Association-Academy of Students and Kappa Epsilon pharmaceutical fraternity.
Karnbach is the daughter of Phyllis and Tom Perrin of Stone Mountain. She is married to fellow Southern School of Pharmacy graduate, Michael Karnbach.
