Mercer to Host State Math Competition for High School Students

WHO: A record number of 37 high schools from across the state, including local teams from Macon’s Central High School, First Presbyterian Day School, Houston County High School, Jones County High School, Mount De Sales Academy, Northeast Magnet High School, Perry High School, Stratford High School, Tattnall Square Academy, Trinity Christian School, Upson-Lee High School, Washington County High School and Warner Robins High School.

WHAT: High school teams will face off in a daylong math competition with a pen and pencil component in the morning and a fast-paced ciphering contest in the afternoon, in which students will have two minutes to complete complex math problems. Mercer Math Department faculty and students will serve as judges.

WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 12, 9:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.

WHERE: Mercer University School of Medicine Auditorium, off Mercer University Drive.

BACKGROUND:  This is the 21st year Mercer University has hosted this high school math competition. Winners from this competition will earn points that will help them advance to the state math competition.
