ATLANTA — Rachel L. Davenport
of Stone Mountain, Ga., received the prestigious Reuben C. Hood Award during the 2007 commencement of Mercer University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in May. Given in honor of a founder and longtime dean of the 103-year-old College, the award is presented annually to the student who has the highest scholastic average in the graduating class of the Doctor of Pharmacy Program. Dr. Davenport completed her four years of pharmacy studies at Mercer with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
She is the daughter of Leslie and Rick Hunter of Stone Mountain and the granddaughter of Jackie and Harold Ogle of Eatonton, Ga. The new graduate will be joining Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Ga., as a clinical pharmacist.
Active in the campus community, she was president of the Honor Council in 2005-2006 and a class officer. The top scholar was a member of the National Community Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, and the National Pharmacists Association Academy of Students, of which she served on several committees.
A member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, she served as vice president of Rho Chi, the national pharmacy honor society. While at Mercer, she received the Minnie M. Meyer Award, the M.A. Chamber Award and the Oliver M. Littlejohn Award, all of which recognize students with the highest scholastic average in their class.
While attending pharmacy school, she served as a pharmacy intern at Apothecare Pharmacy in Snellville. An active volunteer, she has worked with Camp Breathe Easy and Habitat for Humanity.
Dr. Davenport completed her pre-pharmacy studies at the University of West Georgia, where she received the All-American Scholar Collegiate Award.

In a bold leadership move, it became the first school in the Southeast to offer the doctor of pharmacy degree as its sole professional degree in 1981.
