Mercer First-year Pharmacy Students Receive Symbolic White Coats

The 145 students entering the four-year Doctor of  Pharmacy Program of Mercer University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Atlanta

WHAT:           Will participate in College’s White Coat Ceremony, when they will be “cloaked” in their first white coats that symbolize their commitment to the pharmacy profession. Christine Klein, Pharm.D., a 1992 Mercer pharmacy graduate and the consulting pharmacist for OmniCare/Medical Arts Health Care, will deliver the keynote address to the students, their families and friends.

WHEN:            2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007

WHERE:        Sheffield Student Center, Mercer University, Cecil B. Day Campus, 3001 Mercer University Drive, Atlanta, Ga., just inside the northeast perimeter

WHY:              Through the White Coat Ceremony, first-year pharmacy students gain a sense of the College’s core values that focus on professionalism, respect, integrity and caring. By donning the white coat, students show their dedication to health care and the pharmacy profession. During the ceremony, students will recite a Pledge of Professionalism, committing their professional careers and practices to excellence in pharmacy.

About the College: Mercer University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences has a century-long tradition of excellence and a national reputation for producing outstanding leaders in the profession of pharmacy. In addition to the Doctor of Pharmacy degree program, the College offers a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences and performs research in a wide variety of areas, including drug delivery systems, cancer and diabetes. In January, the College will begin a Physician Assistant program, one of only two in the metro Atlanta area.

                        Directions to the School:  From downtown Atlanta, take I-85 north. Take Exit 94 and turn right onto Chamblee-Tucker. At the second traffic light, turn right onto Mercer University Drive. Go straight, the entrance to the campus is on the right.
