Bill Yoast stands between a woman and a man

Bill Yoast, the assistant football coach portrayed in the movie “Remember the Titans,” was a 1949 graduate of Mercer University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The 2000 film tells the story of the T.C. Williams High School football team’s undefeated season in 1971, its first year as a racially integrated team. Will Patton played Yoast in the film, and Denzel Washington played head coach Herman Boone.

While at Mercer, Yoast was a member of the basketball team and Sigma Nu fraternity. He died in May 2019 at the age of 94.
