The Mercer University College of Pharmacy welcomes Dr. Nazia Hoque, associate professor of pharmacy at East West University in Bangladesh, to the Hasan Cardiovascular Research Laboratory this fall. Dr. Hoque was awarded the highly competitive Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship, making her one of only five recipients from Bangladesh, a nation of about 180 million people.
Dr. Hoque’s postdoctoral research, under the mentorship of Dr. Raquibul Hasan, associate professor of pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences at Mercer, focuses on how microbial metabolites influence blood vessel function and regulate blood pressure in both health and disease. This cutting-edge research proposal was developed in collaboration with Dr. Hasan.
The Fulbright fellowship was granted following an extensive selection process, including a thorough review of the research proposal, Dr. Hoque’s scientific profile, an oral defense of the proposal, and an assessment of the research environment at Mercer.
“I am delighted to have Dr. Hoque join my laboratory for her postdoctoral training in cardiovascular science,” said Dr. Hasan. “Her award reflects her academic and research excellence and dedication to advancing crucial research efforts in Bangladesh through global collaboration.
“Dr. Hoque has already demonstrated outstanding progress in the lab, mastering several key techniques. I look forward to seeing her continued success during her time here and to future collaborations once she returns to her home institution.”
