MACON - Mercer University's Townsend School of Music will host a free concert at 2 p.m. Monday, January 21, as the final event of the fifth International Conductors Workshop held Thursday-Monday, January 17-21. Open to the public, the concert will be held in Fickling Hall of the McCorkle Music Building on Mercer's Macon campus. The program will feature works by Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy and Haydn, among others.
MACON - Mercer University President William D. Underwood today announced the appointment of Dr. Wallace L. Daniel, former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Baylor University, as Mercer's new provost, effective July 1, 2008. Dr. Daniel, a prominent historian, succeeds Dr. Horace W. MACON, Ga. - Playing in the featured "A-Sun Game of the Week" the Mercer men's basketball team will be looking to start the New Year off on the right foot as the Bears welcome VMI and the Keydets' potent offense to the University Center for the first time, marking Mercer's final non-conference contest of the 2007-08 campaign. MACON, Ga. - The Mercer University School of Engineering has received a $50,000 grant to expand and modify course offerings. The School is one of just five in the country to receive the grant this year from the Kern Entrepreneurship Education Network, sponsored by the Kern Family Foundation. The grant will run for two years, with options for renewals thereafter through a competitive process.
ATLANTA - Dr. Brian Robinson, pharmacy supervisor of Walgreens, presents a check for $47,000 to Dr. H.W. "Ted" Matthews, dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and vice president for the Health Sciences of Mercer University. The funds will be used to enhance two classrooms in the College's Teaching and Research Center, including new audio/visual equipment. "The College is grateful to the Walgreen Company for its generous support, and we appreciate the partnership we share for improving healthcare on the local, state and national level," said Matthews.
MACON - Mercer University continues to score significantly higher than its peers on a major survey of student engagement and learning. The National Survey of Student Engagement results for the University showed Mercer had achieved above its peers in all five benchmark areas of the study.
