MACON - The candidates for citywide elections in Macon will have an opportunity to address the issues during a Candidate Forum at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29 at the Douglass Theatre, downtown Macon. The event will include the candidates for mayor, as well as the candidates for City Council President.
James Carville and Mary Matalin, Washington's best-loved political couple, will be the featured speakers at The Executive Forum of Mercer University Presented by BB&T, on Wednesday, Nov. 7. The couple will give a lunch presentation at noon at The InterContinental Buckhead, 3315 Peachtree Road NE, in Atlanta, and a dinner presentation at The University Center on the Macon campus.
The Bibb County School District Afterschool Programs is hosting its 8th Annual Lights On Afterschool Celebration today from 4 to 6 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church. More than 200 Bibb County students will enjoy a variety of activities provided by Mercer University students in partnership with Education First and the Medical Center of Central Georgia. MACON - Quadworks, the Campus Activities Board of Mercer University, will host a one-day concert festival, Bearstock, on Saturday, Oct. 20. Bearstock, which begins at noon, will take place on Porter Patch at Mercer's historic Macon campus, and feature Billboard Top 100 artist Mat Kearney as well as 11 other local and regional artists.
Kerry Emanuel, Ph.D., a climatologist and hurricane expert, will give the Second Annual Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecture at Mercer University at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, on Mercer's Macon campus. Emanuel will give a lecture entitled "Divine Wind: The History and Science of Hurricanes."
MACON - Mercer University will offer a continuing education workshop on psychopharmacology from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, at the Woodruff House, 981 Bond Street. The workshop, entitled "A Multidisciplinary Approach: Evolving Insights from Neuroscience and Psychopharmacology for the Helping Professional," is co-sponsored by the Middle Georgia Psychological Association. The event is co-sponsored and hosted by the Department of Counseling and Human Sciences of Mercer's College of Continuing and Professional Studies.
MACON, Ga. - The Walter F. George School of Law is one of the nation's most outstanding law schools, according to The Princeton Review. The New York-based education service company features Mercer in the just-published 2008 edition of its "Best 170 Law Schools."

MACON - More than 200 singers will raise their voices together to present John Rutter's Mass of the Children at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at First Baptist Church of Christ, 511 High Place, Macon. The free concert celebrates the community music initiatives of Mercer University's Townsend School of Music and Townsend-McAfee Institute for Graduate Church Music Studies.
