MACON - Stacey I. Harwell of Valdosta, Ga., took home two top honors when she graduated from Mercer University this month. She is the 2007 recipient of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award and the Wallace Odell DuVall Excellence in Leadership Award.
MACON - During her short lifetime, Mercer University graduate Aqeela Datoo has made her home on three continents, so it comes as no surprise that she has chosen to continue her education overseas. She will journey to England this fall to work towards a master of science in educational studies degree at St. Catherine's College, Oxford University.

ATLANTA - Rachel L. Davenport
of Stone Mountain, Ga., received the prestigious Reuben C. Hood Award during the 2007 commencement of Mercer University's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in May. Given in honor of a founder and longtime dean of the 103-year-old College, the award is presented annually to the student who has the highest scholastic average in the graduating class of the Doctor of Pharmacy Program. Dr. Davenport completed her four years of pharmacy studies at Mercer with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
MACON - Mercer University's successful efforts to work with the community to revitalize the area around the University's Macon campus have garnered it yet another national recognition. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development has featured Mercer in its publication, out this month, Ideas That Work: Building Communities Through Homeownership, as one of 18 colleges and universities in the country that have had notable success in building homeownership through HUD programs.

MACON - The Mercer University's Upward Bound program has received a total of $3.3 million in grants from the United States Department of Education to continue its current program and to expand the program to other counties. The grant will continue the University's 40-year-old program.
