MACON -- Mercer University will soon break ground on its Macon campus for a new state-of-the-art science and engineering building that will enhance its educational partnership with the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center in Warner Robins.
For the approximately 425,000 persons who have visited the University Center since its opening just over a year ago, those patrons are well aware of the many venues of the $40 million facility. However, for those alumni and other friends of the University who have not yet visited the UC, there is now an option to "tour" the facility.   A new virtual tour, using IPIX technology, is now available on the Mercer Web site that provides a panoramic, interactive visit of the facility. In addition to showcasing the many venues on each of the three levels, viewers can click on "hot links" to travel from one location to another. Features include the capability to "zoom in" or "out" in a particular location, see close up such features as items in the Griffin B. The Mercer Preaching Consultation will be held Sept. 18-20, 2005, at the King and Prince Hotel at St. Simons Island. This year's program offers an outstanding lineup of speakers. Registration is limited to 200 because of the size of the meeting rooms at the hotel.
Atlanta-Mercer University will offer a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) preparation course from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings, July 21- Sept. 8. Offered on the University's Cecil B. Day Atlanta Campus, this six-week course is designed to help individuals score their best on the GRE and get them one step closer to graduate school. McDonough- On Saturday, Aug. 20, Mercer University will offer a preparation workshop for the Praxis I exam at its Regional Academic Center in Henry County, 160 Henry Pky., McDonough (near the Henry County Administration Building).   The workshop will focus on the verbal section of the exam and be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $90 for the general public and $75  for Mercer students, alumni, faculty and staff. Macon, Georgia- Mercer University Press author Andrew M. Manis was presented with the Georgia Author of the Year Award for History for his book Macon Black and White: An Unutterable Separation in the American Century on June 4 at the Robert Ferst Center for the Arts on the Georgia Institute of Technology campus in Atlanta. The presentation was made at the 41st Annual Georgia Author of the Year Awards Dinner hosted by Georgia Tech's Ivan Allen College, the School of Literature, Communication, and Culture, the Margaret T. and Henry C. Bourne Jr. Chair in Poetry and the H. Bruce McEver Chair Visiting Chair in Writing.
MACON-Mercer University senior Nancy David of Fayetteville was recently selected from college students across the state to receive the Jack Mangham Experiential Learning Award from the Georgia Association of Colleges and Employers.   The award is given to college students in Georgia who exemplify the characteristics of an outstanding student in experiential learning. One winner is selected from across the state in three categories- business, arts and sciences, and engineering/technology. David won the award in the business category in recognition of her outstanding performance as a summer intern with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals last year. After completing training in New York City, David worked at Pfizer's Atlanta office.  For two weeks she shadowed one of Pfizer's Pharmaceutical representatives. Macon-Effective July 1, Mercer University will pass the gavel in its Registrar's Office. Paul G. Schnepf, who has served as University registrar since April 1, 1996, will retire at the end of this month, according to Dr. Horace Fleming, executive vice president and provost.
