MACON - The United States Senate on Monday unanimously confirmed Marc T. Treadwell, a 1981 graduate of Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law, to fill a vacancy on Middle Georgia's federal bench. Treadwell, who also serves as an adjunct faculty member for the Law School, will fill the vacancy created when Judge Hugh Lawson took senior status in 2008.
NEW YORK - Students from Mercer's Professional Master of Business Administration program recently returned from a five-day tour of the Big Apple, going from Broadway to Wall Street as part of the cohort's Best Practices Field Residency.
ATLANTA - Mercer University's Center for Theology and Public Life will sponsor a series of discussions with two young Christian leaders in Washington on the Atlanta campus Oct. 4 as part of the Mercer Lyceum initiative. The day's events, titled "Christian Faith, Moral Values and Public Service: Two Views from Capitol Hill," will feature Katie Paris, a Democrat and senior vice president of Media Matters for America, and Joshua Trent, a Republican and health care policy advisor for U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn.
MACON - This Saturday, hundreds of children from several of the neighborhood's schools will gather at Tattnall Square Park for a day of adventure, fun and literacy. Sponsored and organized by seniors in Mercer University's Service Scholars program, the Adventure Reading Festival is a free event that runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is intended to encourage children to love reading and to stimulate their imaginations as they head into the summer. The event is free and open to the public.
LITHIA SPRINGS - Mercer University's Douglas County Regional Academic Center will begin its second session of spring semester on Friday, March 10. Adults interested in earning a bachelor's degree through the center's evening and weekend programs are invited to a free open house Thursday, Feb. 23, at 6:30 p.m. Academic advisors, professors, financial planning representatives and admissions counselors will be available to answer questions and discuss programs.        
MACON, Ga. - Mercer University has developed a unique study abroad program that will take students to the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands to spend three weeks engaging in adventure sports and studying photography or archeology. Dubbed, the Mercer Caribbean Experience, the first program participants will study in the tropics during Mercer's first summer session, May 31-June 21.
MACON - More than 200 Mercer University students will show off what they have learned at the University Center on Mercer's Macon campus. The students will showcase their talents on Friday, April 18, as part of two events, the Inaugural Engineering Expo and the Second Annual Mercer University Undergraduate Research Symposium. Both events will take place from 2 - 5 p.m.
ATLANTA/MACON - Mercer University will hold the first three of its 10 commencement ceremonies this Saturday. The health schools will graduate their students in separate ceremonies on their respective campuses in Atlanta and Macon. The remaining seven ceremonies will take place over the next two Saturdays.
Mercer University has installed an emergency warning siren to alert campus and neighboring residents of potential danger. The new siren, located on the Macon campus, will be tested for the first time at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, as part of the monthly audible test of the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) test. The test will be performed the last Wednesday of each month.According to Mercer Police Chief Gary Collins, "This is one more step in the ongoing effort by Mercer University to improve mass communications with our students, faculty, staff and neighborhood in case of emergency."Along with the siren, there is also a voice address component to inform the campus of an emergency situation. The combined approach of voice and siren can help save lives by eliminating confusion and restoring order.The siren is integrated into the Macon-Bibb County warning system and will be automatically activated when an EMA emergency notification or test is transmitted.

The group has begun its work of fitting and distributing Mercer-designed prosthetic legs and will continue through June 25.The group is one of seven Mercer On Mission '09 teams and is providing the new low-cost prosthetic legs to amputees living in and around Ho Chi Minh City.
