MACON – Mercer University's Center for Collaborative Journalism (CCJ) is now offering dedicated scholarships for students interested in journalism and media studies.
CCJ will host its first-ever Media Innovation Prize and Scholarship Competition on Jan. 30-31, 2015, on the Macon campus. The invitation-only event will see a number of high school students compete to become Media Innovation Scholars and receive four-year, full-tuition scholarships to Mercer, a value of over $135,000.
To receive an invitation to the competition and be eligible to become a Media Innovation Scholar, current high school seniors must first apply and be fully accepted to Mercer.
Next, students must complete the Media Innovation Scholar Competition form by Dec. 31. This form requires either links to samples of the applicant's best work in media or an essay.
Finally, applicants are required to attend the Media Innovation Scholars Competition on Jan. 31 and be interviewed by a panel of CCJ representatives.
In addition to scholarships, CCJ is in the process of developing a program to provide select Media Innovation Scholars with paid summer jobs and internships at some of the country's leading media organizations.
During the scholarship competition, CCJ will also honor a media professional with the Media Innovation Prize. The prize recognizes a journalist, technologist or entrepreneur who has developed innovative approaches in media. Students and guests will have the opportunity to meet and learn from the prize winner, guest speakers and members of CCJ's National Journalism Advisory Board.
