Ashley Boone recently graduated from Mercer University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Science in psychology.
What are your plans after graduation?
I will be obtaining an alternative teaching license through Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina while teaching high school English.
Who was your favorite professor and why?
My favorite professor was Dr. Crescent Rainwater, lecturer of English and liberal arts. She was my INT 101 and 301 professor, and I was able to be a preceptor for her. Her classes and guidance have been an integral part of my undergraduate career.
What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?
My favorite Mercer memory was when I made the dance team. Being able to continue my dance career while cheering on the Bears has been an honor.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
My advice for incoming students is to make sure you’re listening to your needs and keeping up with responsibilities just as much as you’re indulging your “wants.” It’s very easy to come into college and want to do new things, but it’s important to remember why you’re in college — to learn. This isn’t to say you can’t have traditional college fun, just in moderation.
What makes Mercer special to you?
Mercer is special because of the community. I always knew I didn’t want to go to a highly populated school, so when I found Mercer, it felt like the story of Goldilocks — just right. I will cherish the community I’ve found among friends and faculty here for a lifetime.
