Cameron White is graduating from Mercer University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Arts in global health studies.

What are your plans after graduation?

I will be attending Mercer’s Georgia Baptist College of Nursing on the Macon campus.

Who was your favorite professor and why?

Dr. Rachael Goodman. I took several classes with her, each at a different phase of my undergraduate career. She challenged me in class yet encouraged me to keep going when I felt overwhelmed. I am so lucky to have been taught by Dr. G, and she truly represents the best of what Mercer has to offer.

What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?

Working no less than 20 summer orientations as a peer advisor. Having the opportunity to serve the first-year students alongside some of the most incredible and hardworking upperclassmen, and academic and advising services staff, was such a fun experience. I wouldn’t trade those memories for the world.

What was your favorite class and why?

Literature and medicine with Dr. Andrew Silver. The class focused on narrative medicine, and we read several short stories, plays and poems that reflected how individuals experienced disease. I thoroughly enjoyed studying how understanding a person’s lived experiences with disease can shape effective health care. We often focus on the science of the disease and forget the person who is living with it. I found this class incredibly powerful in its material. It is absolutely one of the best courses offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and every pre-health student should consider taking it.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Embrace everything that Mercer has to offer with an open mind. This campus will change you for the better if you give it the opportunity!

What makes Mercer special to you?

Mercer completely shaped me into the person I am today. From the friends I’ve made, the professors who have poured into me, and the organizations I’ve been a part of, each opportunity and encounter has either challenged me, supported me or encouraged me, and I am forever indebted to Mercer University.
