MACON – Mercer Innovation Center (MIC) will feature Mercer On Mission – the University's unique initiative combining study abroad and service learning – for the final Open MIC Night of the spring semester on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public, and will take place in the MIC, located in the former Religious Life Center on the Macon campus.
Dr. Craig McMahan, University minister and dean of chapel, and Chris R. Sheridan, president of Macon-based Chris R. Sheridan and Co. General Contractors, will speak about the life-changing experiences provided by Mercer On Mission, particularly in Vietnam.
Over the last six years, nearly 5,000 Vietnamese amputees have received new prosthetic legs through a Mercer On Mission program led by biomedical engineering professor Dr. Ha Vo. That number will soon grow exponentially thanks to new partnerships and funding, including $1.25 million from the Sheridan Family Foundation.
Mercer On Mission provides academic instruction, cultural immersion, meaningful service and spiritual reflection to transform the lives of both Mercer students and those they serve in Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America and around the globe.

Earlier this year, the Mercer Innovation Center began hosting Open MIC Night as part of its programming intended to develop the already rich and thriving culture of entrepreneurism at Mercer, as well as to foster relationships, network and collaborate with entrepreneurs, the local community, other universities and beyond.
