MACON – Mercer Theatre's first performance in the newly completed Tattnall Square Center for the Arts will feature William Shakespeare's The Tempest, April 16-26.

“We are very excited to present The Tempest as the inaugural production in the N. Logan Lewis Theatre at the Tattnall Square Center for the Arts. It's one of the Bard's most popular and entertaining works,” said Mercer Theatre Director Scot Mann.

The Tempest is set on a remote island, where Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place using illusion and skillful manipulation. He conjures a storm, the eponymous tempest, to lure his usurping brother to the island.

Mercer students and community members have been busy for weeks transforming the N. Logan Lewis Theatre into a tempestuous sea.

“The new facility has greatly enhanced the quality of theatre we can produce, as well as expanded the educational value of our theatre program at Mercer,” said Mann. “The cast includes alumni, students and community members, as is fitting for a space that is focused on expanding the reach of arts programming in the local community.”

The Tattnall Square Center for the Arts is located at 1096 College Street. Performance dates and times include April 16-18 at 7:30 p.m., April 19 at 2:30 p.m., April 23-25 at 7:30 p.m., and April 26 at 2:30 p.m. For more information call (478) 301-5470.
