Porsche CEO to Speak at Executive Forum


MACON – Known as “Mr. Porsche” in the United States and Canada, Fred Schwab, president and chief executive officer of Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), will be the featured speaker at the March 18 Executive Forum of Mercer University.

The breakfast presentation will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Mercer University’s Religious Life Center, located on College St., off Mercer University Drive. The luncheon presentation will be held at 12 p.m. in the Trustees Dining Room on the Cecil B. Day Campus in Atlanta.

The automotive executive has had overall operational responsibility for the import and distribution of Porsche cars and parts, as well as for all service functions in the U.S. and Canada. Under Schwab’s leadership, PCNA has extended its position as the most important sales company at Porsche AG.

Schwab joined PCNA as executive vice president for finance and administration in 1985. He was promoted to senior vice president in 1988 and named president and chief executive officer in 1992.

He began his career in 1960 with the accounting firm, Touche Ross, (now Deloitte & Touche LLP), becoming a partner nine years later. In 1974, he joined Fruehauf Corporation as president of Ackermann Fruehauf, a wholly owned subsidiary in Germany. In 1978, he became president of Fruehauf Europe, responsible for all Fruehauf European operations. In 1982, Schwab was named executive vice president of Fruehauf International in Detroit, responsible for all non-North American controlled subsidiaries. He was named chairman of the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers (AIAM) in 1995, and served in that capacity until 1998.

A board member of the German American Chamber of Commerce in the Southern United States, Schwab is also on the national board of directors of the Hope Foundation. A graduate of Michigan State University, he serves as a board member to Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business.

As Georgia’s premier business enrichment program, the Executive Forum is a membership-based speaker series designed to link the business community to Mercer’s Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics.

Established in 1979, the Executive Forum serves as a resource for working professionals in Atlanta and Macon and provides an opportunity for executives to hear from some of the country’s most sought-after speakers, while interacting with other business leaders.
