MACON — Mercer University students will present their research projects during an Undergraduate Research Symposium this Friday, April 20, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Tarver Library on Mercer’s Macon campus. The event will feature 27 posters, highlighting projects completed by 40 Mercer undergraduate students who conducted research with professors from the School of Medicine, the School of Engineering and the College of Liberal Arts.
Dr. D. Scott Davis, senior vice provost for research and dean of graduate studies, said the event will offer faculty and students alike inspiration for further research collaborations.
“Mercer University has always been committed to providing unique academic experiences for our students, including high-quality independent research opportunities and this event will celebrate that,” Davis said. “We also hope this celebration will serve as the impetus for further undergraduate research.”
Topics of the research include: basic medical science, Latin, math, physics, chemistry, psychology, earth and environmental science, biology and engineering. Each student, or team of students, spent at least one semester working on their project under the direction of a Mercer faculty member, according to the event’s organizer Kevin Bucholtz, assistant professor of chemistry.
