MACON – Mercer University’s BB&T Center for Undergraduate Research in Public Policy and Capitalism will host a lecture by Roy Fickling, owner and president of Fickling & Company Inc., Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Medical School Auditorium as part of the Center’s speaker series.
Fickling, a Macon native, will give a presentation, titled “The Benefits of Capitalism and Free Trade,” which will cover reflections on recent economic and political developments in the United States.
Fickling is a successful entrepreneur who is passionate about economics and free enterprise. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in banking and finance from the University of Georgia, and has served as the president of Fickling & Company Inc. since 1993.
Fickling & Company Inc. is a regional real estate development, brokerage, management, and consulting firm based in Macon.
Fickling is also the president of Riverside Automotive Inc. and Riverside Ford, director of Georgia Technology Authority, vice chairman of the Wesleyan College Board of Trustees and independent director of Piedmont Community Bank Group Inc. He serves on the boards of the Tubman African-American Museum and the Macon-Bibb County Chamber of Commerce, among many other leadership positions in the Middle Georgia community.
The mission of the BB&T Center for Undergraduate Research in Public Policy and Capitalism is to encourage a thorough discussion of the moral foundations of capitalism through scholarly activities involving undergraduate students.
The speaker series invites to campus high-caliber speakers who present on topics related to the underlying principles and institutions of free markets.
The next speaker in the series will be Dr. Derek Yonai, associate professor of economics and director of the Koch Center for Leadership and Ethics in the Barney Barnett School of Business and Free Enterprise at Florida Southern College.
Dr. Yonai will give a presentation, titled “Morality and Market,” on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m.
