MACON - Mercer University Provost Wallace L. Daniel has announced the appointment of a search committee to lead the process of recommending a dean for the Walter F. George School of Law to succeed Daisy Hurst Floyd. Dean Floyd, who has led Mercer Law School since 2004, announced in September her intention to step down as dean at the end of the current academic year to become University Professor of Law and Ethical Formation following a sabbatical.Mercer Law Professor James Fleissner will chair the search committee. MACON - Mercer University will serve as the host institution for the upcoming 29th Annual Southeastern Atlantic Regional Conference on Differential Equations, Oct. 16-17. More than 75 faculty and graduate students from across the Southeast will come to Mercer's Macon campus to present research on differential equations, one of the most essential areas of calculus.

MACON - Dr. Stephen L. Morgan, an expert in forensic chemistry, will give the Fourth Annual Sigma Xi Distinguished Science Lecture at Mercer University on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Morgan's lecture is titled "Forensic Analytical Chemistry: Basic Research behind CSI." Mercer senior Drayton Perkins spent his summer crossing America on a bike - it was his second trip cross country helping PUSH America's Journey of Hope. Perkins worked this summer as crew chief for trans-America cycling route. Perkins, a professional accounting major in the MAPS program at Mercer, is from Barnesville.

ATLANTA - Gov. Sonny Perdue has appointed Mercer University Trustee Dwight J. Davis as the Fourth Congressional District Representative on the Board of Natural Resources. Gov. Perdue announced the confirmation on Oct. 1. As a member of the Board of Natural Resources, Davis will be responsible for setting the regulations that the Georgia Department of Natural Resources enforces.
MACON - Mercer Theatre is now presenting Henrik Ibsen's play, "An Enemy of the People," as adapted by Arthur Miller. The play will continue through Oct. 11 at the Back Door Theatre in Willingham Hall. Nightly performances run through Saturday, Oct. 10, and begin at 7 p.m. the final performance is 2 p.m. matinee on Oct. 11. The play is being presented in conjunction with Mercer's conference "Caring for Creation: A Scientific and Theological Response," which will take place Oct. 29-31 on the University's Macon campus.
