Atlanta-With literacy being the cornerstone of a child's education, students and teachers in Mercer University's Tift College of Education are learning how to creatively bring the excitement of reading to the kids in their classrooms.
MACON - The timeless sounds of traditional jazz come to Macon with the arrival of one of the greatest jazz bands of our day. Preservation Hall Jazz Band will perform at The Grand Opera House at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 11. Tickets will be $15 for general admission.

The Association of Women Law Students (A.W.L.S.) at Mercer Law School  will host the 5th annual Charity Auction and Ball Thursday, March 27, 7-11 p.m., at The Cupola at Plantation Centre.   All proceeds will be donated to "In Our Best Interest," a battered women's center in Baldwin County, and the Macon Rescue Mission.   The Charity Auction will feature law professor Chris Wells as the celebrity auctioneer. A new addition this year includes the band Big Johnson and the Criminals, comprised of Mercer Law students, providing entertainment.   A.W.L.S. has set a goal to exceed the $10,000 raised at last year's event. Brunswick Attorney Honored by Mercer Law School
MACON-Walter Homer Drake Jr., United States bankruptcy judge for the Northern District of Georgia, was honored by the Mercer University Law School as the recipient of the 2003 Outstanding Alumnus Award. Drake is a double graduate of Mercer, earning his bachelor of arts degree in 1954 and his law degree in 1956.
MACON-Mercer University biology professor John Shepherd was recently named a Fulbright scholar, and will travel to Argentina next year to teach and conduct research through the support of this prestigious award.
