Mercer University's National Collegiate Wrestling Association team left Friday for the NCWA Southeastern Conference championship in Gainesville, Fla.   Mercer has three of six wrestlers ranked in their respected weight classes, with Richard Sexton ranked second in his weight class (197 lbs). Competing against 21 other colleges and universities in the southeast, Mercer wrestlers hope to qualify for the NCWA national competition in Grand Rapids, Mich.    The University of Central Florida and Pensacola Christian College are both two-time national champions and bring tough competition to the southeast conference. Among other teams competing include the University of Georgia, Auburn, University of Alabama and University of Florida.

 JACKSONVILE, Fla.- Andrew Brown and Ross Alacqua combined for five points inside the final 36 seconds of overtime as the Mercer men's basketball team opened its final road swing of the season with a 93-90 overtime decision past Jacksonville University Friday night in Atlantic Sun Conference action at Swisher Gymnasium.  The Bears struggled to get untracked offensively in the early going, missing shots or committing turnovers in three of its first four possessions, as Jacksonville (1-24, 1-17 A-Sun) sprinted out to an 8-2 lead on the strength of a pair of 3-pointers by seniors Antonio Cool and Aubrey Conerly, sandwiched around a basket by Mario Brown.   Andrew Brown's running jumper in the lane pulled Mercer (8-16, 6-11 A-Sun) back to within one, at 8-7, with 16 minutes remaining in the opening half. Adults interested in earning a bachelor's degree through the Center's evening and weekend programs are invited to a free open house Thursday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m. Academic advisors, professors, financial planning representatives and admissions counselors will be available to answer questions and discuss programs.        
 MACON, Ga. - The University Center will be buzzing with basketball this weekend, as the Mercer women's basketball game scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18, against Gardner-Webb has been moved from 2 p.m. to noon.  The game time has been changed due to the GISA Class AAA State Basketball Tournament.   The girls' quarterfinals was held Friday night. The boys' quarterfinals will be Saturday, Feb. 18, with the first game slated for a 4 p.m. start.

 JACKSONVILE, Fla.- Behind a balanced offensive attack, the Bears placed five players in double figures as the Mercer men's basketball team topped first-year Atlantic Sun Conference member North Florida, 77-71, Sunday afternoon at UNF Arena.   "It was a big effort on both the offensive and defensive ends," said Mercer head coach Mark Slonaker. "Our guys really stepped up on both ends."   In only the second meeting between the two schools, Mercer (9-16, 7-11 A-Sun) started slowly.
