Mercer alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends are urged to nominate former student-athletes, coaches or contributors whom they deem viable candidates for the Athletic Hall of Fame. Mercer now inducts members into the coveted Hall of Fame every two years. Most recently, women's basketball standout Emma Mumphrey (Beal) and golfer Ed Everett were inducted in 2005.

           ATLANTA - Susan S. Gunby, dean of Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University, was the first Georgian to ever be recognized with the National Student Nurses' Association's (NSNA) Leader of Leaders award at the group's annual convention in Baltimore last spring. Winners of this award, which is only given once annually, must provide motivation and generate enthusiasm for NSNA involvement and for the nursing profession, exhibit and teach professionalism, and encourage students to continue their education and professional involvement after graduation.
MACON, Ga.- A total of 50 Mercer University student-athletes in six sports earned Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic honors as recently announced by the conference office.   To earn the honor, a student-athlete must achieve a 3.0 or higher in the classroom during their semester of competition. The sports sponsored by the 11 conference members are cross-country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, golf, softball, baseball, indoor and outdoor track & field. ATLANTA - Mercer University's Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics will hold a free reception and information session for its new 16-month accelerated Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) degree as well as its Flexible MBA. The event will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead, 3300 Peachtree Road NE. Stetson School of Business and Economics Dean Roger C. ATLANTA - When the 145 members of Mercer University's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Class of 2010 receive their white coats at the College's annual White Coat Ceremony on Aug. 17, they will see newly-designed logo patches to reflect the College's new name. Approximately 570 pharmacy students will be wearing the logos on their coats in more than 175 locations in the metro Atlanta area as they participate in their practice experiences.
MACON, Ga. - As part of Golf Digest's second annual College Golf Guide, the Mercer men's golf program earned a designation as one of the nation's top golf programs.   Mercer was ranked 36th overall in the "Golf First" category and was the only Atlantic Sun Conference program in the top 50. The Bears ranked in the top 20 percent in two categories (team adjusted scoring average and academics) and in the top 30 percent in two others (climate and coaches/facilities).   The team adjusted scoring average spans the past four seasons and applies the formula used by the NCAA selection committee. Player growth was measured whether the players on the roster the past four years lowered their adjusted scoring average on a yearly basis and the team's combined improvement of decline.   A university's overall score from U.S. News & World Report's 2006 guidebook, America's Best Colleges, was used to measure academics.  The Longitudes Group provided a 30-year...

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer University Educational Opportunity Center has received a renewal grant of $1.86 million from the United States Department of Education to continue to provide information and counsel to individuals wanting to expand their education beyond high school. The grant to Mercer, which will be distributed over four years, was one of only three awarded to educational institutions in Georgia.   "This grant renewal is another indication of Mercer's commitment to helping young people pursue higher education in Central Georgia," said Mercer University President William D. Underwood. "Mercer's Educational Opportunity Center has enabled thousands of adults and high school students realize their dream of post-secondary education."   The grant takes effect Sept. 1 and funds the Center's outreach to U.S. citizens living in an eight-county area around Macon.
