MACON - Mercer University School of Medicine is partnering with Piedmont Healthcare in Atlanta to offer its Master of Family Therapy (MFT) degree program in Atlanta, beginning this fall. Recipients of The Master of Family Therapy degree will be eligible to apply to the state of Georgia for licensure for the independent practice of family therapy.
MACON, Ga. - Mercer University Provost Horace Fleming has announced the appointment of prominent ethicist Dr. David P. Gushee to the position of Distinguished University Professor of Christian Ethics. Dr. Gushee currently serves as a University Fellow, Graves Professor of Moral Philosophy, and Senior Fellow of the Carl F.H. Henry Center for Christian Leadership at Union University in Jackson, Tenn. At Mercer he will be based in the James and Carolyn McAfee School of Theology in Atlanta and is expected to teach interdisciplinary ethics courses throughout the University.McAfee Dean R. Thomas B. Slater, professor of New Testament at the James and Carolyn McAfee School of Theology, is one of 25 contributors to True to Our Native Land: An African American New Testament Commentary, recently released by Augsburg Fortress Press. It is the first biblical commentary written entirely by African Americans. Brian Blount, Dearborn Professor of New Testament at Princeton Theological Seminary, was the general editor. The other editors were Cain Hope Felder, New Testament professor, Howard University; Clarice Martin, Picker Professor of Religion, Colgate University and Emerson Powery, associate professor of New Testament, Lee University. Griffith Jr. Professor and Chair of English, and teacher of Mercer University's "Harry Potter and 20th Century Fantasy" course, is featured in a recent CNN.com article. Rowling's Harry Potter series, as well as 20th century fantasy icons J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and Ursula K. Le Guin. Richardson began his study of the Potter books when his children took an interest in them when the series began 10 years ago and over the life of the series he has taught students who grew up with the series and with Pottermania.
