Michael Bloom graduated from Mercer University’s School of Music with a Bachelor of Music Education.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to start my teaching career as the assistant band director at Peach County High School in Fort Valley.
Who was your favorite professor and why?
I have two: Dr. Nathan Gay and Dr. Brittan Braddock. I have built such a close relationship with both of them over the last four years. They have been nothing but supportive since the beginning, and they have encouraged me to keep going even when things got tough. They believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. I couldn’t have asked for better professors and mentors throughout my time here.
What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?
My favorite Mercer memory was going through initiation with the rest of my brothers in Kappa Kappa Psi. Bringing something new and special to this school is what I’ve wanted to do my whole time here at Mercer. I wanted to leave something behind that people could feel welcomed in and feel like they have a home even when things get hard.
How do you plan on changing the world?
By bringing my passion for music to future generations of musicians and hopefully change their lives for the better.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
To be yourself. Don’t ever feel like you have to change for the people around you. You will find that group of people who truly care about you and like you just the way you are.
What makes Mercer special to you?
The people! My friends and professors have been such a huge support system throughout my time at Mercer, and I don’t think I would have made it through without them.
