MACON - One of the world's leading cometary scientists, Paul Weissman, Ph.D., a senior researcher at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, will deliver two lectures at Mercer University's Macon campus on Wednesday, Feb. 6. The lectures are free and open to the public.
ATLANTA - The New Baptist Covenant is under way in Atlanta, drawing on some of the most prominent figures in Baptist life. T he Celebration will continue through Feb. 1 at the Georgia World Congress Center. The New Baptist Covenant traces its roots to April 10, 2006, when Jimmy Carter and Mercer University President William D. Underwood convened at The Carter Center in Atlanta a group of 18 Baptist leaders representing more than 20 million Baptists across North America.

MACON, Ga. - Looking for a little insight on where that top recruit might be heading next year? Mercer University economics professor Allen K. Lynch, Ph.D., along with two colleagues, will launch a Web site - http://ssbea.mercer.edu/lynch/CFRPM.htm - today with predictions for the top 250 players in this year's prep football recruiting class. The predictions are based on an econometric model the trio has been developing over the past several years.
ATLANTA - Jewish New Testament scholar Amy-Jill Levine, Ph.D., of Vanderbilt University will be 2008 presenter of the William L. Self Preaching Lectures, Feb. 18-19, at McAfee School of Theology of Mercer University on the University's Atlanta campus. Levine will give three lectures on "Jesus, Judaism and Anti-Jewish Preaching" over the two days: "Christians Say the Darndest Things: Mistakes about Judaism Mean Mistakes about Jesus," "Telling Different Stories: How the Bible both Unites and Divides Jews and Christians," and "Getting Past Guilt and Politeness: The Bible and Jewish-Christian Relations."

MACON - Because of inclement weather at the host site on Jan. 19, the Georgia Collegiate Wrestling Championships were postponed and moved to Mercer University. The event will now be held Saturday, Jan. 26 in the gymnasium of the Communication and Theater Arts on Mercer's Macon campus.
