CONYERS, Ga.-The Baptist Women in Ministry of Georgia has named Joan Stockstill Godsey of Macon the 2005 Distinguished Churchwoman of the Year. The recipient of this honor is selected based on her significant contributions to ministry, her dedication to mentoring other women in ministry, her leadership and her commitment to her church. Mrs. Godsey received the honor at the meeting of the Baptist Women in Ministry of Georgia in Conyers.
Mercer University's towering magnolia trees, immaculate landscape, and stunning architecture have earned it recognition as one of the top five most beautiful campuses in the nation, according to The Princeton Review. Inclusion on the "Most Beautiful Campus" list is only one of three national rankings that Mercer earned in The Best 361 Colleges, the annual college guide published by The Princeton Review. Approximately 15% of the four-year colleges in America are featured in the book. It includes ranking lists of the top 20 colleges in various categories, from academics to political activism.
Several Georgia institutions of higher education fare well in the 2006 U.S. News & World Report rankings released Aug. 20. The rankings are part of the highly anticipated 2006 edition of "America's Best Colleges." MACON -- Mercer University will soon break ground on its Macon campus for a new state-of-the-art science and engineering building that will enhance its educational partnership with the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center in Warner Robins.
For the approximately 425,000 persons who have visited the University Center since its opening just over a year ago, those patrons are well aware of the many venues of the $40 million facility. However, for those alumni and other friends of the University who have not yet visited the UC, there is now an option to "tour" the facility.   A new virtual tour, using IPIX technology, is now available on the Mercer Web site that provides a panoramic, interactive visit of the facility. In addition to showcasing the many venues on each of the three levels, viewers can click on "hot links" to travel from one location to another. Features include the capability to "zoom in" or "out" in a particular location, see close up such features as items in the Griffin B. The Mercer Preaching Consultation will be held Sept. 18-20, 2005, at the King and Prince Hotel at St. Simons Island. This year's program offers an outstanding lineup of speakers. Registration is limited to 200 because of the size of the meeting rooms at the hotel.
