MACON — Mercer University’s McEachern Art Center (the MAC) will open the gallery for its final show of the 2022-2023 school year with “Sincerely Yours,” an exhibition for class of 2023 graduating fine art and design students, from April 21-May 18.

The title is drawn from the iconic monologue that ends the 1985 film The Breakfast Club as the sign off to a letter stating each individual has defied stereotypes and has come together as a cohesive group. The poster for the exhibition makes a cheeky nod to the film with vintage-style photography.

The phrase “Sincerely Yours,” is often used as a complimentary close to correspondence, indicating an end point for the writer. Similarly, the graduating seniors are using this show as a statement wrapping up their time at Mercer. The title indicates loyalty and affection while creating a clear cleavage point as the seniors depart campus.

“We’re excited to host this thrilling show, which fills the gallery with personal reflections, political stances, commercial design and environmentalist messages,” the MAC Director Ben Dunn said.

Another reason this senior show is important, Dunn said, is the opening is part of BEAR Day research presentations. Showcasing artistic and creative research is an important part of the MAC’s mission.

An opening reception to coincide with BEAR Day will take place 6-8 p.m. April 21, and there will be an informal reception 4-8 p.m. May 5 during downtown Macon’s First Friday.

The MAC is located at 332 Second St. in Macon. Admission is free and open to the public during gallery hours, 4-8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays. Media and educators may access the gallery outside of normal hours by appointment.
