Alumnus Wilson Named to Georgia State Board of Pharmacy

ATLANTA – D. Steven Wilson, Pharm.D., owner and pharmacist of Carter’s Pharmacy in Smyrna, has been named to the eight-member Georgia State Board of Pharmacy. Appointed by Governor Sonny Purdue, he is one of the seven licensed practicing pharmacists who serve on the board that is responsible for the regulations of pharmacists and pharmacies in the state. The state board of pharmacy reviews applications, administers examinations, licenses qualified applicants and regulates the practice of licensees throughout the state.

Dr. Wilson holds three degrees from Mercer University. He earned the bachelor of science in pharmacy degree in 1976 and the doctor of pharmacy degree in 1977 from the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and the master of business administration degree in 1982 from Stetson School of Business and Economics.

He has remained actively involved with his alma mater. For more than 25 years, he has been an adjunct faculty member and a preceptor for the College of Pharmacy. A former president of the College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, he continues to serve on the Board of Directors. The Alumni Association has recognized his commitment to the pharmacy profession and the college, awarding him the Young Alumni Award in 1987 and the Alumni Meritorious Service Award in 1991.

Pharmacy professional associations have benefited from Dr. Wilson’s leadership. He has served as president of the Georgia Pharmacy Association, the Atlanta Academy of Institutional Pharmacists and the Cobb County Pharmaceutical Association. In 2002, The Georgia Pharmacy Association presented the Smyrna resident with the Bowl of Hygeia Award, which is given annually to the outstanding practitioner in Georgia.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Wilson was the director of pharmacy at Brawner Psychiatric Institute in Smyrna and a clinical consultant for the Psychiatric Institute of Atlanta and Laurel Heights Hospital. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member for the College of Nursing at Georgia State University.

He and his wife, Karen, and two sons, Austin Tull, a pre-pharmacy student at the University of Georgia, and Steven, Jr., a senior at Campbell High School, live in Smyrna.
