Mercer Madness, the annual kick-off of men's and women's basketball for the upcoming season, will be held this year on Friday, Oct. 13, at the University Center. This year's event, sponsored by QuadWorks and Mercer Athletics, will feature a volleball game with the Bears hosting Savannah State.   The volleyball game will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a spirit contest competition featuring Mercer Maniacs.   At 8 p.m., the dance team and cheerleaders will lead those in attendance into the promotional activities of Mercer Madness.   The women's basketball team, under the direction of interim head coach Sybil Blalock, will scrimmage at 8:45 p.m. followed by the finals of a women's 3-on-3 competition.   It will be the men's team's turn to scrimmage at 9:15 p.m. Coach Mark Slonaker will begin his 10th season at the helm of the Bears.   The men's 3-on-3 finals will follow at 9:30 p.m.   Beginning at 9:45 p.m., winners will be announced in the spirit...
MACON-Augusta resident Caroline Gary recently was awarded the Griffin B. Bell Award for Community Service at Mercer University Law School commencement May 10. 
This past Saturday's Mercer commencement -- which included graduates from the College of Liberal Arts, School of Engineering, Stetson School of Business and Economics and Tift College of Education -- will be re-broadcast Wednesday, May 17, on WCOX15 on Cox Communications (locals only, channel 15). The commencement, which was held Saturday morning at the University Center, was broadcast live by Cox on channel 15.   The re-broadcast, which will give those who participated or attended the ceremony an opportunity to watch it on local (Macon) cable television, will begin at 6 p.m.
ATLANTA - Mercer University's Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics will hold a free reception and information session for its new 16-month accelerated Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) degree as well as its Flexible MBA. The event will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead, 3300 Peachtree Road NE. Stetson School of Business and Economics Dean Roger C. ATLANTA- Mercer University will offer a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) preparation course from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursdays from May 24 - June 28. Offered on the University's Cecil B. Day Atlanta Campus, this six-week course is designed to help individuals score their best on the GRE and get them one step closer to graduate school.

MACON - Southern literary scholar Anne Goodwyn Jones will present the 2007 Lamar Memorial Lecture Series of Mercer University, marking the program's 50th anniversary, on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 15-16, on the university's Macon campus. Jones, visiting fellow at the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi, will present three lectures around the theme: "Before and After the War: Formations of Southern Manliness," which are free and open to the public.
MACON - The Townsend School of Music welcomes pianist Dr. Ruth Anne Rich for a solo recital on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Fickling Recital Hall of the McCorkle Music Building. Dr. Rich grew up on Mercer's campus surrounded by music while her parents, Arthur and Helen Rich, built the music department that eventually grew into the School of Music.
MACON, Ga. - Chpryelle "CeCe" Carr, daughter of Malvin and Shirley Carr of Lawrenceville, Ga., is one of two students to receive the highest honor Mercer University bestows on a graduating student: the Griffin B. Bell Award for Community Service. She was presented a crystal Steuben sculpture during the May 5 commencement of the Mercer University School of Medicine, where she received the doctor of medicine degree.Named in honor of Mercer alumnus and former United States Attorney General Griffin B. Bell, the award recognizes students who have exemplified the true meaning of community service during their studies, improving the lives of others through their dedication and commitment.
